Here are some Topographical maps, and other kinds of maps, mostly for places I like to hike.
These are Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Portable Document Format (PDF), Jpeg 2000(jp2), or Jpeg (JPG) files
Yes, they are big files.

The ones starting with "o3..." are USGS 7.5 Minute Quads, available at http://atlas.ca.gov/cgi-bin/gf/geofinder through a very unfriendly user interface - click on the "Location Map", click on "7.5 Mon Quads", click on "Link to DRGs". I originally downloaded from http://casil.ucdavis.edu/mapsurfer/ , The California Map Surfer, which wa easier to figure out, but is now defunct. Usually I straighten them out (rotate, clean, etc). "f3"s are 1:100000 scale USGS TOPOs, and "c3"s are 1:250000 TOPOs.

The ones starting with "34" through "38" are available at http://svinetfc4.fs.fed.us/rastergateway/ (they were once available from the forest service at http://svinetfc4.fs.fed.us/rastergateway/regions/r5/r5.html , but I think the new link replaces the old one). I have modified a lot of these to make the file sizes smaller, etc. The forest service topos are much better than the "o3..." ones, but unfortunately they don't include quads without National Forest land in them. A few of them, at least 37001822 Split Mountain, and 37221837 Mount Morgan, are really screwed up.

http://www.geocommunicator.gov/GeoComm/index.shtm is great for locating old mines, BLM land boundaries, and lots of other stuff.

Get "Forest Visitor Maps" at http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/forestvisitormaps/ as PDFs by clicking on a map and then on "Printable Version", or just go to my National Forest Maps folder 

The Old30MinuteTopos folder has some old 20 minute and 1 degree maps. The name shows the scale, quad name, date and date reprinted.
